Why ADHD And Traditional Blogging Do Not Mix

I’m riddled with ADHD and therefore I get easily distra…I’m still kind of hungry…I wonder if we still have some chicken in the fridge?

Oh, sorry about that, I got a little sidetracked for a second there. :)

The bottom line is that the traditional blogging method of talking at your audience for 1,000+ words without taking a breath is not only paint drying boring for me, but just isn’t something I can sustain.

For about a year and a half I consistently maintained Motivate Thyself with new posts every week or more, many of which easily exceeded the 2k word mark.  And while I feel it was a good exercise of patience and self discipline and I meant every word I said, I just never felt this style was me…AT ALL.

So I’m going to be experimenting with short (and sometimes quite random) posts, with a wide range of content types and layouts (using the flexibility of Catalyst).  The key will be to figure out a way to do this while still providing useful information to my readers.  We will see…

Hey Eric, I have a free theme and have had some folks reccomend Frugal/Catalyst as an upgrade. Before I take the leap I am wondering if it will be as simple as installing the theme and voila my posts will still be available without much additional work. Or can I expect to be doing hours of additional trouble shooting? The price is crazy and not the issue, but downtime would be. BTW, ADHD is not my problem but rather letting too many projects get in front of what is vital to success. Thanks and good luck in 2011. -Barry

      Hey Barry,

Your actual blog posts will still display just fine without any tweaking necessary. By default, Catalyst will display your latest blog posts on your homepage.

And if you want to tweak the design then you can easily do so with the hundreds of no-coding design options and even import any one of the included 22 Custom Skins for instant customization.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of time to waste customizing your WordPress website, but as far as the actual blog posts and being able to hit the ground running, you should be just fine.

And yes, I’m totally guilty of trying to do too much at one time, but that’s what seems to drive me most effectively so I guess it’s not a bad thing. :)

  2. Eric,
Thanks for sharing your story and struggle! Changing up your types of posts should make your blog more enjoyable for you and your readers! I loved Frugal and am in the process of changing over to Catalyst and am glad you created it! Did you know folks with ADHD are more creative!? Have a POWERFUL week! Allegra

      Hey Allegra,

I appreciate the kind words. And don’t worry, I love being ADHD. If nothing else it gives me an excuse to Tweet, work on Catalyst and listen to Pandora, all at the same time. :)
